About

Bryn-Erinn Gourley, CTHP-CTM

Welcome to the soothing world of therapeutic harp music. I am a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner and Clinical Therapeutic Musician. I earned my certification through the International Harp Therapy Program, which is accredited by the National Standards Board of Therapeutic Musicians. I am also a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Musicians.

I have always been creative with music and sound. After a lifetime of improvising, composing, and arranging at the piano, I felt called to do the work of a therapeutic musician.

In my mid-twenties I had a close family member on hospice at home. He had always loved my piano music, but during the hospice journey I often felt the piano was just too much for the moment. At that time, the hospice we were signed up with had a harpist who would come play vigils. This was an incredible experience for all of us and it planted a seed deep in my heart.

I am thrilled and honored to be part of this incredible movement. Playing for patients and their families in the hospital environment has filled my heart and given me many cherished memories of connection and love for the people I have served.

Playing the harp as a healing modality is my calling and privilege.

Why the harp?

There is just something magical about the harp. Ethereal, if you will. Some have suggested this magic is due to the design of the harp. By having an open-strung design, the strings are allowed to vibrate unencumbered, enhanced by the sympathetic resonance of the other strings and the rich wood of the soundboard. It is pure sound.

My musical life started at the piano, and I still consider the piano to be my first “home.” But from the first instant I awkwardly plucked the string of a harp, I was fascinated. I knew I had to learn how to make it “go.” As I have studied and practiced, I have experienced firsthand how soothing and enjoyable the harp is. Sharing this magic with others is my humble honor and joy.
