Therapeutic harp music is played live by a certified practitioner, with a focus on creating a soothing atmosphere to enhance patient well-being. I will use the resonant tone of the patient, or the environment around us, to weave a rich tapestry of sound. I utilize a wide range of musical modes and styles based on the person I am playing for and how they present. Sometimes this will be a familiar tune, other times this will be improvised and completely unique to the patient and the sounds around us at the time.
How Does Therapeutic Harp Benefit Patients?
Bedside music has been shown to improve patient reports of pain, fear, anxiety, stress, and other negative experiences that can interfere with well-being. By creating an individualized cocoon of sound, we facilitate a better sense of ease. Patients often report feeling cared for, nurtured, hopeful, resigned and at peace, a sense of calm, companionship, and even happiness.
